In our families, we have all kinds of characters; some are smart, not so much. Unfortunately, you don’t get to choose your family members even if they act like idiots. It’s not like your brother is mentally ill, only that he hates using his brain.
I have a 12 year old daughter who is terrible to her younger brother and sister: putting them down, humiliating them around friends, and making fun of everything from their voice to their clothes. She calls them “loser,†and “idiot. †she says things about how kids at school think they’re stupid, or ugly. I see the hurt in their eyes, especially in the younger one who is starting to feel very insecure. I know middle school has been a hard adjustment for my oldest, but should i let them work things out on their own? how do you know when something is normal sibling rivalry and when it crosses a line?.

Im still in shock from the ending, i did not expect it at all. So im not gonna give you a spoiler, watch it and see if your gonna be just as shocked.

"initially, i resolved this by moving to a different town from "jimmy," and i figured that with distance he would seem less grating, that i'd be able to deal with his madness more easily. Ok this may be a little extreme but i think it will work. First invite her over for a nice steak dinner(it has to be steak, why?) this way when your eating dinner she will have to use a "steak knife". Make sure you let her use the sharpest and pointest knife you have. After dinner set her knife aside(do not touch the handle with your hands!!!). After a nightcap your brother and girlfriend will be off to sleep. The physical and mental abuse she's put me through has turned me into a bitter person. I've managed to overcome depression by burying myself in a circle of friends that love and respect me the way any sibling should. I'm 22 now, and my sister will be 27 in a few months. I'm only a few years apart from my sister, so i can't imagine how it must feel to be dealing with someone so much older than you, especially when you know they're wrong. No matter what anyone tells you though, it is okay to feel out of touch with one of your family members. You don't get to choose what family you're born into. If your sister never does anything good for you, then you have no obligations to her. I got a lot of shit from people, saying i should treat my sister with respect, because older siblings are like mentors. But i don't miss a wink of sleep at night knowing i wouldn't do anything for her, because she's never earned it. I know this site is anonymous, but if you ever feel you need to rant about your sister again, and you want a bit more of a personal connection, i think you should be able to see my email below.
