The bible contains literally hundreds of different names and titles of god the father, jesus christ, and the holy spirit. For the purposes of this article, we will look at the names of god the father, many of which are found in the old testament and are noted in the hebrew and in english. Each of god's names and titles describes a different aspect of his nature and character.

God the Father in the Old Testament

From the latin iacob, which was from the greek ἰακώβ (iakob), which was from the hebrew name יַעֲקֹב (ya'aqov). In the old testament jacob (later called israel ) is the son of isaac and rebecca and the father of the twelve founders of the twelve tribes of israel. He was born holding his twin brother esau 's heel, and his name is explained as meaning "holder of the heel" or "supplanter", because he twice deprived his brother of his rights as the firstborn son (see genesis 27:36 ). Other theories claim that it is in fact derived from a hypothetical name like יַעֲקֹבְאֵל (ya'aqov'el) meaning "may god protect". god

Jesus and the Father

This shows that the lord here is sovereign and, therefore, superior to david — the messiah — jesus christ. The messiah was more than the descendant of david; he was david’s lord. Brothers, i can tell you confidently that the patriarch david died and was buried and his tomb is here to this day. fathers But he was a prophet and knew that god had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead he spoke of the resurrection of christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of this fact. Exalted to the right hand of god, he has received from the father the promised holy spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For david did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, the lord said to my lord: sit at my right hand until i make your enemies a footstool for your feet ( acts 2:29-33 ).

God knows we are sinners. He knows we mess up. He wants us to live obedient lives but knows that we will never be able to do that on our own. Even so, he still wants a relationship with us. So jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and died a sacrificial death on a cross. All we need to do is believe that is the truth and confess it and we will be “washed clean” by jesus’ blood. When god, the father, looks at anyone who believes in jesus, his son, he sees them as forgiven and pure, and they can be in relationship with him.

Since poieo is a verb, we must also determine the meaning of its tense, voice and mood. The tense of poieo in matthew 7:21 is in the present tense. Poieo in the present tense refers to action that is ongoing. For example, when jesus said, “he who does the will” he was referring to ongoing action at that moment in time. In a previous q&a titled, “ what is the will of the father in matthew 7:21? ” the following was stated about the meaning of the word “does. ”.

In the sermon on the mount, jesus told his disciples how to pray. The prayer is recorded for us in matthew 6:9-15. Now before explaining the opening part of the prayer, it is important to notice that we are to pray for the father first, before we pray for ourselves. Here are the first two verses of the prayer.

I believe in one god, the father almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one lord jesus christ, the son of god, the only-begotten, begotten of the father before all ages. Light of light; true god of true god; begotten, not made; of one essence with the father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate of the holy spirit and the virgin mary, and became man. And he was crucified for us under pontius pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And the third day he arose again, according to the scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the father; and he shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

In a discussion over whether christians could eat meat sacrificed to idols, paul agreed that idols were powerless and represented false gods, stating: "about eating food offered to idols, then, we know that 'an idol is nothing in the world,' and that 'there is no god but one. ' for even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth—as there are many 'gods' and many 'lords'—yet for us there is one god, the father, from whom are all things, and we for him; and one lord, jesus christ, through whom are all things, and we through him" ( 1 corinthians 8:4-6 1 corinthians 8:4-6 as concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other god but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) but to us there is but one god, the father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one lord jesus christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Jesus is the perfect revelation of the father. As ray anderson put it in his book the shape of practical theology, “to know jesus is to be confronted with the reality of god himself” (page 18). There is no difference between the heart of jesus and the heart of the father. Jesus said he was one with the father ( john 10:30 ). To know jesus is to know god.

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ

The name of god: abba by fr. Paul tarazi when jesus sent his apostles to preach the kingdom of heaven (mt. 10:7), he said to them, “he who welcomes you welcomes me, and he who welcomes me welcomes him who sent me. He who welcomes a prophet because he is a prophet, receives a prophet’s reward; he who welcomes a holy man because he is a holy man, receives a holy man’s reward. And i promise you that whoever gives a cup of cold water to one of these lowly ones because he is a disciple, will not want for his reward. ” (mt. 10:40-42) the meaning is clear: the disciple, the prophet and the holy man are representatives of the lord, and to welcome one of them is to welcome the sender himself. But the situation is not so obvious in the case of children, for one might interject and rightly so: there is no basis whatsoever to say that a child as such represents jesus, exactly as there is no ground for christ to be in the midst of a gathering of two or three per se. Our lord himself acknowledges the validity of such an objection when he adds in both cases the key expression “in my name. ” thus he says, “whoever welcomes one such child in my name, welcomes me,” (mt. 18:5), as he does later: “where two or three are gathered in my name, there am i in their midst. ” (v. 20).

Question: "what does the bible say about christian fathers?" answer: the greatest commandment in scripture is this: “love the lord your god with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (deuteronomy 6:5). Going back to verse 2, we read, “so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the lord your god as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that i give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. ” following deuteronomy 6:5, we read, “these commandments that i give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (vv. 6-7).

The Father and His Children
